Phillip Moore
Executive Pastor
Twitter FacebookA student of business management principles, a former missionary who loves golfing and sailing, Phillip Moore is a blend of ministry passion and administrative focus.
Moore is a South Carolina native who graduated with an MBA from the University of Central Oklahoma. Despite living in Texas since 1997, Phillip remains a die-hard Oklahoma Sooners fan – but that has been tempered a bit with his son attending A&M.
He is married to Ellen, The Ark’s children’s pastor, and has served in full-time ministry since 1989. Moore enjoys sailing, traveling, reading, and spending time with his family.
As Executive Pastor, Phillip’s role includes working closely with Senior Pastor Alan Clayton. Phillip provides strategic leadership, planning, and direction for all ministries. He is also responsible for personnel management, financial administration and oversees the day-to-day operations of the church.
The books lining his office shelves show his devotion to the job; the titles cover various principles of leadership, team building, and management. As Moore describes it, “My bottom-line job is to take as much off of Alan as I can; as a result I get to do a lot of different things, and to be involved in every area.”
One of his biggest jobs was given to him shortly after arriving at The Ark – to plan for and execute the construction of The Ark and its move to its current location. Those first services after moving into the new location, Moore said, were “a very memorable achievement.”
But ultimately, Moore said, it’s not just planning or leadership skills that has made The Ark a center for ministry – it’s the dedication to hearing from God.
“We’re not following a detailed business plan or defining success by creating 125 different ministries,” he said. If The Ark finds success in ministry at all, he said, it’s “because the Holy Spirit led us to do it.”
