For Dr. Ellen Moore, children’s ministry is more than just telling kids about Jesus – it’s seeing them follow Him and do what He has called them to do, even at a young age. “I love the chance for kids to come here and see that knowing and serving God is an exciting adventure, and God has a plan for them right now when they’re a kid, not just in the future,” Dr. Moore says.
As Children’s Pastor, Ellen provides vision and leadership to all children’s classes and services for birth through 5th grade.
Ellen was born in Oklahoma City and is married to Phillip, the Executive Pastor. They have two children, Joshua and Meagan.
Ellen received her Doctor of Education degree from Oral Roberts University and a Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. Her background includes teaching, school administration, overseas missionary work, and being a stay-at-home mom. She relaxes by cooking up a new recipe, reading a great book, or spending time with the girls; one of her cooking traditions in her family is a layered birthday cake -- one layer of yellow cake, with chocolate icing, for every year. “The most I’ve done is 17!” she says.
Ellen initially had planned a career in education administration in the school system. But as she came to see what God was doing at The Ark and was offered the opportunity to head up the children’s ministry, she realized it was a chance to put all of her talents and training to work for a great cause.
She believes that as the church partners with parents, kids can connect with and be transformed by Jesus, and in turn, transform their world.
“Lots of times it’s the kids saying, come on, we’ve got to go to church, and that’s what I want. One of the Psalms says ‘and a little child shall lead them,’ and I think we can have that, a force in Montgomery County where the kids are leading us toward Jesus.”
