For John Huseman, student ministry is all about having a passion for kids and helping them get to know God in a powerful way. After being a youth pastor for the previous eight years in Colorado, John came to The Ark in 2009. He received his degree in Pastoral Christian Ministries from Oral Roberts University, and also graduated from the Focus on the Family Leadership Institute in 2000.
While attending ORU, John met his wife, Lindsay, and they have been married since 2003 and have four children, Brooklyn, Jonathan, Naomi, and Samuel. Some of John’s hobbies include playing guitar, golfing, tennis, changing diapers in record time, and cheering wildly for the Dallas Cowboys.
One of John’s desires is to reach out to the teens of Montgomery County and create a place where students can connect with God in a relevant and genuine way. The Wednesday night AYC services are known for being vibrant and creative all within a context that is appealing to teens. John is an inspiring speaker who strives to provide a message each week that speaks to teenagers right where they are at in their current phase of life.
John’s spends much of his “free time” going to students’ sporting events or other activities and placing himself in their lives. The Student Ministry staff weekly visit the local schools and socialize and encourage the students.
“During my teenage years is when I gave my life to God," John explained. "After I started living for God, my life improved drastically. The teen years can be tough, but I believe having a relationship with God makes all the difference. I love that I get the opportunity to teach students about the Lord each and every week.”
