More Reasons for Rejoicing
Psalms 5:11-12 NKJV
11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.
12 For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous;
With favor You will surround him as with a shield.
This is one of the passages that I have memorized. In these two verses are some key principles of our life with God. These two small verses contain some great reasons to rejoice. So I will make this personal and bring this devotional from my perspective. Feel free to tag along, or even better, make this personal in your own life.
I put my trust in You, Lord, so I am rejoicing. There are many voices and institutions calling for my trust. But all that man can come up with is temporary. Even the most solid things and stable people change or pass off the scene. But I am glad because I am trusting the One who never changes and will exist in the eons ahead forever and ever.
I shout for joy because You defend me, Lord. Oh, the enemy tries, and people try, but ultimately, You are the One I am trusting. You protect me, and when the dust settles and the noise dies down, I am still standing strong. My shield of faith is up, and I keep going, strong in You.
I love Your name, who You are, and who You are to me. You are kind and compassionate. You are gracious and forgiving. You are strong and never change, and You are not moved by moods or whims. So I am joyful in You. Not afraid. Not cautious. Not waiting for something bad to show up if I get on Your bad side. You don’t have a bad side, and You are a wonderful Father. I so appreciate that, and I am joyful in You.
You bless me and surround me with Your favor as with a shield. Because of what Jesus has done for me, I am righteous in Your sight. And the favor that surrounded the saints of old, such as Joseph, David, Daniel, and Ruth, is surrounding me. Thank You for Your favor. Because of the shield of favor on my life, I am expecting the best and not the worst. And the greatest thing is that Your favor, Your protection, and Your trustworthiness are making me a living testimony to Your reality and goodness.
