THERE IS MORE IN YOU
DANIEL 5:14
DANIEL 5:14 NKJ
14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.
āØI know that the majority of my devotionals come from the New Testament readings. The reading for today was Revelation 6. It's a pretty intense chapter and worth reading. But my biggest takeaway was that I do not want to be around when those seals get opened. So, let's look at a passage in our Old Testament reading in the book of Daniel.
This is the famous chapter about the handwriting on the wall. It was a judgment from God against King Belshazzar, who was profaning God's holy temple instruments. Because no one could read the writing, they sent for Daniel, and King Belshazzar says the smartest thing he ever said.
The Spirit of God is in you, Daniel. And because He is in you, there are some really good things in you. Light, understanding, and excellent wisdom are in you (my paraphrase).
Well, Belshazzar was correct in his assessment of Daniel. It wasn't just that Daniel was real smart, although he was. It was a function of who was in Daniel. Because the Holy Spirit was in him, Daniel had access to wisdom and understanding way past normal human knowledge.
Daniel was able, by the Holy Spirit, to give the king the interpretation of the writing. Things did not turn out well for King Belshazzar, but Daniel kept going for years.
APPLICATION:
The beauty of this passage is that the same Holy Spirit who equipped Daniel is in us today. Not a lesser Holy Spirit or a reduced version. But the same Spirit that was in Daniel and raised Jesus from the dead is living in us. (Romans 8:11) So we then can say that the Spirit of God is in us. And light, understanding, and excellent wisdom are found in us. This is a statement of faith, but it's important that we agree with what God says about us, not what we feel or have experienced in the past.
Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be our helper, and He helps us by showing us truth and revealing things that are to come. (John 16:13) There is so much more in you, and as you acknowledge Him, you find more and more of His help in your life. With God, there is always more.
