IT JUST WON'T GO AWAY

PROVERBS 19:21

PROVERBS 19:21 NKJ
21 There are many plans in a man's heart,
Nevertheless the Lord's counselā€”that will stand.

OBSERVATION:

This verse has been a big help to me over the years as it pertains to discerning God's counsel and plan.

There are many plans in a man's heart. Many ideas and plans that we can latch onto. But that does not mean that all those plans have originated from the Lord.

A few months before we started The Ark, I was presented with an opportunity that looked very promising.

I had an opportunity to work for a company that was installing cell phone towers. This was in the mid '90s, and cell phones were exploding in popularity. The job would have paid extremely well, and the owner was a solid believer.

I told him I would pray about this position. And for the first couple of days, I could see myself doing this job. I could certainly see myself making that kind of money.

But after a few days, I actually forgot about the opportunity. It just left me. I was involved in getting The Ark started and stopped thinking about that job. The owner eventually called me and asked if my knees were sore from so much praying. I apologized for taking so long to get back to him and declined the position.

What happened? Many plans, but that's not what stood. The Lord's counsel is what will stand. With the church just about to start, I could not have taken this new position and effectively started The Ark.

The Lord's counsel is that which keeps coming up in our hearts. I really did not know how I was going to make the money work, but the Lord's counsel of focusing on the church would not go away.

Whenever honestly seeking the Lord's counsel, we will find it's that quiet idea that just won't go away. Other plans come and go, but the Lord's counsel, His plan, will stand.

PRAYER:

Lord, please show me Your plan and Your counsel. Your counsel is what will stand. And Your counsel, when I follow it, will cause me to stand.
